Dance Tuition for School-aged Children, Teens and Young Adults
We have a huge variety of wonderful classes on offer for every age group and experience!
Good training is our top priority…
Safety is our number one concern and dancers’ bodies need correct training in order to develop into healthy adults. All class material is appropriate for the age level and technical skill of the dancers.

Annual Mid-Year Gala and Awards Day
This annual event is held in June every year at the Laycock Street Theatre. Trophies and Awards are presented on the day to students for encouragement, improvement and achievement and a guest adjudicator also visits. There are no costumes required (only class uniforms). Whilst this event is not compulsory, it is highly encouraged as children love to perform on the stage and it is a great stepping-stone to the end of year performance!
End of year professionally produced Full-Scale ‘Production’
The finale to our year is the end of year Production that all students look forward to and is a great reward for all their efforts and hard work. Professionally produced and complete with costumes, lighting, props and scenery, the productions are not to be missed!
Student of the Month Award
One student each month is selected on their achievements, class attendance, attitude and behaviour in and out of class time. A photo of the student is displayed in the studio’s foyer. Recipients of the Student of the Month Award also receive a $10 FSD Gift Voucher.
Eisteddfods / Competitions in Solos and Troupes
Solo work is for the dancers that love dancing on stage! Solo work is very rewarding for the individual dancer as it builds self-confidence, commitment, and further develops the dancer’s technique.
Performance Troupes are a lot of fun, enable team effort, offer a good peer-support group and social times and best of all tuition is FREE! Invited students have the opportunity to perform at local Eisteddfods and non-competitive performances every year in both solos and troupes.
R.A.D. Ballet and P.D.A.U.T. Tap Examinations
Examinations give the student a goal and a huge sense of pride and achievement. RAD Graded Ballet examinations are held in July/August at the studio’s premises. An official Examiner of the Royal Academy of Dance will visit the studio to examine the students. RAD Vocational exams are usually held in Newcastle or Sydney up to 3 sessions per year. Students of FSD have received a 100% pass rate every year! Two former students have received 100% for their examinations in Primary and Grade 8 Ballet. Tap Examinations are held in 1-2 sessions per year at the studio’s premises.
Class Uniforms and Accessories Available
All uniform requirements are available from the studio’s office. We also sell a broad range of second-hand items such as shoes and FSD dance wear. To help families with offsetting the costs of buying new dance items, we also offer a ‘re-sell’ option for students once items become too small. We also sell our second-hand items to schools and to other dance schools! Refer to the Uniforms page.
Holiday Programmes for Examination Candidates
All exam candidates are required to attend holiday classes prior to exams to ‘rehearse’ and ‘fine-tune’ their technique, music and performance skills. In addition, the studio often holds Summer classes in the January school holidays.
Frequent Guest Teachers and Workshops from the Dance Industry
Regular guest teachers in all styles of dance will be visiting our studio throughout the year. In addition, the studio also encourages students to attend special dance workshops that are held in and outside of the studio.
Pianist Accompaniment for Selected Ballet Classes
Miss Linelle is the studio’s official exam pianist. She also visits the studio regularly to play for both grades and vocational ballet classes.
Three Monetary Scholarships Awarded Annually
These are the highest attainable awards of the studio awarded to one Sub-Junior ($100), Junior ($150) and Senior student ($250) and presented at the End-of-Year Annual Production.
Regular Open Days Each Term to View Classes
Parents and friends are often invited to the studio to view the students in their classes at the end of every term. This allows the parents/guardian to see how their child/children is progressing.
Every year we aim to keep costs to a minimum for families. All fundraising activities give 100% of the profits back to the students!
Costume Hire Shop
Throughout the year we hire costumes to the students (a cheaper alternative) as well as to school groups, book parades and for dress-up parties. Check out our range of costumes available. We have the largest range of children’s costumes! Refer to the Costume Hire page.
Mentors and Tutors for RAD and PDA Tap Teaching Programs
Miss Fiona is a CBTS Mentor for the RAD Teacher Training program and the studio also offers Tap Teacher Training in the P.D.A.U.T. Tap syllabus.
Careful guidance is offered to those students who are interested in pursuing a career in ballet, Commercial Dance and/or performing Arts. The studio is regularly informed of auditions and information regarding full-time courses available, auditions, companies, etc. Past students of FSD have had a 100% success rate with auditioning for Tertiary Dance Courses and many are now dancing overseas professionally in Australia and overseas!
Overseas/ Interstate Dance Tours Offered
Every couple of years the studio takes an overseas Dance Tour. Students have travelled and performed at Disneyland, Universal Studios and Hollywood.
We aim to teach the young students how to look after their bodies, awareness of correct nutrition, how the muscles work, and that good deportment is ‘cool’! Anatomy, Nutrition and Fitness, Dance History and Injury Prevention are all integrated into the dancer’s training. We want to create ‘thinking’ dancers and well-educated dancers, and to teach them the ‘what’, ‘when’, ‘where’, and ‘why’ and not just ‘how’ to dance in a respectful, nurturing environment.
